The Sisterhood is the first and only safe space in Jakarta that is run by women refugees and for women refugees. Our community center in South Jakarta, Indonesia, serves as a vital refuge where we stand together against gender-based violence and support each other in our fight for refugee rights in Indonesia. It’s a place where we don’t feel alone and where refugee women in Indonesia can feel at home. We find strength in Sisterhood.

Since 2018, over 1,200 women refugees in Indonesia have participated in our activities—both online and at our community centre in Jakarta. We overcome social isolation, make lasting friendships, and gain confidence through new skills. The Sisterhood is a Community of Empowerment in the fight against gender-based violence and promoting refugee women's rights.

As a women refugee-led organisation, our mission is to strengthen the bonds between women of all faiths and backgrounds and to promote the rights and well-being of refugee women, especially those facing gender-based violence. Our members come from diverse countries including Afghanistan, Cameroon, Eritrea, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen.

We offer weekly classes in English literacy, computer literacy, tailoring, handicrafts, hairdressing, and make-up, which support the empowerment of refugee women in Indonesia. These programs also play a vital role in addressing gender-based violence and promoting refugee rights in Indonesia through our refugee-led organization.

Supporting physical and emotional wellbeing through yoga, art, and mental resilience programs, while promoting women's rights empowerment and addressing gender-based violence, particularly in the context of a refugee-led organization focused on refugee rights in Indonesia and the specific needs of refugee women in Indonesia.
We raise awareness, advocate, and organise in our communities to empower refugee women in Indonesia to know and claim their rights, particularly in the context of gender-based violence. As a refugee-led organisation, we also advocate at local, regional, and international levels to promote refugee rights and women's rights.

We provide a safe and welcoming community space in South Jakarta for women refugees to come together, support one another, and advocate for refugee rights in Indonesia. We build solidarity with women refugee-led organisations on addressing gender-based violence, and promoting women's rights.
