The Sisterhood is the first & only safe space in Jakarta that is run by women refugees & for women refugees.
Our community center in
South Jakarta, Indonesia is a place where we don’t feel alone. It’s a place where we feel at home.
We find strength in Sisterhood.
Since 2018, over 1,200 women refugees have attended our activities - online & at our community center in Jakarta.
Women who were socially isolated have made friends, gained confidence from their new skills & felt encouraged to become active in their communities as volunteers, advocates, & representatives.
Our mission is to strengthen the bonds between women of all faiths and backgrounds and to promote the rights and well-being of refugee women.
Our members come from many different countries including Afghanistan, Cameroon, Eritrea, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Pakistan, Somalia & Yemen.
Weekly classes in English literacy, computer literacy, tailoring, handicrafts, hairdressing, & make-up.
Supporting physical & emotional wellbeing through yoga, art, mental resilience programs, heath education & clinics.
Legal awareness, advocacy & community organizing to support refugee women to know & claim our rights. We also speak at local, regional & international events.
A safe and welcoming community space in South Jakarta for women refugees to come together and support one another. We also build solidarity with organisations led by forcibly displaced women in the wider region.
The Sisterhood is a foundation registered in Indonesia with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights under the name Yayasan Sisterhood Persaudaraan Perempuan (Nomor AHU-0007329.AH.01.04 Tahun 2023).
